Dr. Sharon-Lise Normand, is S. James Adelstein Professor of Health Care Policy (Biostatistics) in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School and Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Normand is a recognized authority on the development of statistical methodology for clustered observational data and has played an essential role in emphasizing the importance of statistics in assessing the quality of healthcare. She has made innovative research contributions to statistical methodology for combining information for provider profiling, for meta-analysis, and to causal inference for assessing the quality and effectiveness of healthcare services. Dr. Normand earned her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Toronto, holds a Master of Science as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School. She is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the American Heart Association, and an Associate of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. In 2011, she was awarded the American Statistical Association Health Policy Statistics Section’s Long Term Excellence Award; in 2012, the American Heart Association’s Distinguished Scientist Award; in 2013 elected to the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology; in 2015, awarded the L. Adrienne Cupples Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service in Biostatistics from Boston University; in 2017, awarded the American Heart Association Council on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award; in 2018, awarded Mosteller Statistician of the Year by the American Statistical Association Boston Chapter; and in 2019, elected Fellow to the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2022, she was named “Best Female Scientists in the World 2022 Ranking”; Ranked 442 World and 272 in the USA.

Dr. Efthimios Kaxiras is the John Hasbrouck Van Vleck Professor of Pure and Applied Physics at Harvard University and Director of the Institute for Applied Computational Science. His work in computational materials science and multiscale modeling explores the connection between atomic behavior and larger-scale phenomena. He also holds appointments as Professor of Physics and formerly served as the Gordon McKay Professor of Applied Physics. Dr. Kaxiras earned his Ph.D. and B.S. in Physics from MIT after transferring from the National Technical University of Athens. Before joining Harvard in 1991, he held positions at IBM Research and the Naval Research Laboratory. His research spans electronic properties of solids, nanostructures, biomolecular systems, and blood flow dynamics, with a strong focus on multiscale approaches. He has also directed initiatives in computing and biomedical research, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics. Dr. Kaxiras has organized numerous international conferences and serves on several editorial boards. His interdisciplinary work continues to shape the fields of theoretical and applied physics.

Dr. Sergio Imparato is a Lecturer in Government and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Government at Harvard University. He also teaches at Harvard Extension School, Harvard Summer School, and Harvard’s Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology Department. His primary field of research explores the intersection of ethics, technology, and policy, with a particular emphasis on the ethical implications of emerging technologies in healthcare, artificial intelligence, and civics. Dr. Imparato is interested in how these advancements shape our understanding of human relationships, societal norms and the future of governance. Dr. Imparato is currently working on a book project on the “Ethics of Giftedness,” an analysis of the moral duties that stem from natural talent. He has contributed opinion pieces to several publications such as Stat, The Hill, The Diplomat, and Newsweek. While at Harvard, Dr. Imparato was awarded many teaching awards and was chosen twice among the “best 12 professors at Harvard” to give a lecture at “Harvard Lectures that Last”. He is the recipient of the Harvard Certificate of Distinction in Teaching, the Harvard Certificate of Teaching Excellence, and the Dean’s Commendation for Distinguished Teaching Performance.
